Harambee Stars international Michael Olunga has come to the aid of his international teammate Patrick Matasi as he helped him clear a hefty hospital bill following the Kenyan goalkeeper’s accident.
As TUKO.co.ke reported, Matasi cheated death after a horrific car accident that occurred along the Kapsabet-Nakuru road in Lessos, Uasin Gishu county.
Reports on June 1 indicated the car experienced a tyre burst which led it to lose control before veering off the road, rolling several times.
While speaking after paying a visit to Matasi at the Kakamega Referral Hospital, Olunga wished Matasi a quick recovery after settling his bill which stood at KSh 429,000.
“Matasi is a good friend of mine and I wish him a quick recovery and that of his family. I have partnered with my good friends, Odibets to come and clear my teammate’s hospital bill and that of his family” The striker, who plays for Al Duhail in the Qatar league said.
Aftermath of the accident
In the wake of the harrowing ordeal, Matasi and his wife were initially rushed to Kapsabet hospital for immediate treatment.
At the time, his relative Albert Mulanda revealed the goalkeeper was set to undergo scans as he was complaining of chest pains.
He was in the company of his wife, who suffered a double foot fracture and his two-year-old son, who sustained a shoulder injury. Both parties subsequently needed surgery.
Matasi then went on to set up a paybill number and urged well-wishers to help him clear the bill at the Kakamega Referral hospital which was rising by the day.
Olunga, through his foundation, also helped clear the bills of other patients at the hospital.

Olunga's generous act comes only days after his counterpart Victor Wanyama donated solar panels to a rehab centre in Mathare, Nairobi.
Wanyama was appointed UN Habitat's goodwill ambassador thanks to efforts from his foundation to give back to society.
The two organisations signed a Memorandum of Understanding pledging to help vulnerable women, girls, children and youth living in informal settlements to help them access basic amenities such as water and job opportunities.
