  • Real Madrid suffered a 2-0 defeat to Real Sociedad on Tuesday night
  • Carlo Ancelotti has put the blame on Eder Militao's doorstep
  • Los Blancos now trail league leaders Barcelona by 14 points

Real Madrid may still have a chance to win the Champions League and the Copa del Rey, but their recent La Liga performance has been appalling.

Carlo Ancelotti's side's recent setback came at the hands of Real Sociedad, who handed the defending La Liga champions a 2-0 defeat at Reale Arena in San Sebastian, Football Espana reports.

And this result comes days before their Copa del Rey final against Osasuna.

According to the Athletic, one Madrid player whose error led to the defeat against Real Sociedad was Brazilian defender Eder Militao.

And Ancelotti has sent a clear message to the centre-back after the game.

“I agree, he has to wake up. And has to do soon,” the Italian was quoted as saying by the Atheltic.

What did Militao do?

Marca reports that Militao made a severe blunder that allowed Real Sociedad to open the scoring in the 47th minute.

In an attempt to play a back pass to Thibaut Courtois, the defender lost it, allowing Takefusa Kubo to tap the ball into an open net against his former team.

Militao, 25, has featured 44 times in all competitions for Real this season, and has been part of a Real backline that has conceded 32 goals in 33 La Liga matches.

Ancelotti identifies Militao's flaws

Sports Brief reported that Carlo Ancelotti had noticed two flaws in one of the best defenders in the world presently.

In identifying Eder Militao's flaws, the veteran manager also extolled his abilities.

"Militao is the best in the world. He has a flaw, sometimes he is not 100% focused, and also, he is not that handsome," the veteran manager said, as quoted by MadridXtra.

How Sociedad defeated Real Madrid

Sports Brief also reported earlier that Real Madrid fell to a 2-0 defeat at Real Sociedad on Tuesday, leaving the champions 14 points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona with five games remaining.

Former Madrid winger Takefusa Kubo and Ander Barrenetxea netted for the hosts, who tightened their grip on the fourth spot and Champions League qualification.

Madrid defender Dani Carvajal was sent off after an hour for a second yellow card to make matters worse for Los Blancos.
