  • Kevin de Bruyne missed the game against Fulham over the weekend through injury
  • Ahead of Manchester City’s clash with West Ham, Guardiola provided an update on the Belgian
  • According to Guadiola, his star midfielder still “doesn’t feel good”

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has provided crucial injury updates on duo Kevin de Bruyne and Nathan Ake.

De Bruyne, who has been crucial for City in their winning run in the league, was conspicuously absent from his side’s 2-1 victory over a high-flying Fulham side on Sunday, April 30.

City welcome West Ham on Wednesday, May 3, and Guardiola was asked about the availability of De Bruyne, to which he said as quoted on Evening Standard:

“Kevin is starting to move but he hasn’t trained with the team. We’ll see in a few hours how he’ll be.”

According to the Spaniard, De Bruyne is only set to return to workouts rather than full training with the first team because of his injury.

For Ake, Guardiola confirmed the Dutchman could be available after showing significant progress from his hamstring injury.

Before his injury, Ake had featured nine times for the Citizens during their frightening run of 11 wins across all competitions, according to SportBible.

He was, however forced off during the Champions League game against Bayern Munich, which City drew 1-1 to progress to the semis of the competition.

Man City surge towards title

Meanwhile, City will look to consolidate a third consecutive Premier League title, as they reclaimed top spot over the weekend.

With a game in hand, Pep Guardiola and his boys are two points ahead of Arsenal, who face Chelsea In a tricky London derby on Tuesday, May 2.

City’s remaining fixtures are against West Ham, Leeds United, Everton, Chelsea and Brighton.

How Liverpool could qualify for Champions League

Sports Brief also reported on the unlikely scenario that could see Liverpool end up with a top four finish this season.

Liverpool’s faint hopes of Champions League qualification were boosted on April 30 thanks to a dramatic 4-3 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.

A run of four wins and a draw in their last five games has put Jurgen Klopp’s side fifth with 56 points, two ahead of Spurs, who have played a game more.

For now, the Reds can only hope to win their remaining five matches against Fulham (home), Brentford (home), Leicester City (away), Aston Villa (home) and Southampton (away); and hope either Newcastle United or Manchester United drop crucial points in their respective fixtures.
