Former AmaZulu Marketing Boss Breaks Silence on Gender Based Violence Allegations
FootballManchester United Coach Benni McCarthy Fires Shots at AmaZulu and Cape Town City
- Benni McCarthy's stints as coach of Cape Town City and AmaZulu were both dramatic periods
- He arrived at the Cityzens and Usuthu with immediate success in his first season at the helm
- The Manchester United first-team coach has now opened on his time in Cape Town and Durban
Benni McCarthy still has a bitter aftertaste of his time coaching in South Africa.
The current Manchester United first-team coach was the boss at both Cape Town City and AmaZulu, where he was successful, though he was eventually shown the door for backroom fallings-out with management.
Speaking exclusively to iDiskiTimes, the Bafana Bafana legend said:
“I was sad... from disappointment because I didn’t expect when you have the kind of success that I had with the clubs that I’ve worked with, for them to then take the route of making you unemployed and firing you because they couldn’t deal with the success you were bringing to the clubs.”

McCarthy believes neither club could handle his growing popularity and what his name meant to South Africans.
“And then they felt the best way is to get someone that’s not as big as I was. And yeah, that makes me sad. Because I couldn’t understand what direction South Africa is going, when you have success, and you get fired for being successful, or doing what not many coaches in their career have done. So that was what I couldn’t stomach."
The Bafana legend led City to the MTN8 title in 2017, as News24 reported, before guiding AmaZulu to their highest-ever finish in the league during the 2020/2021 season, as per News24.
He is currently enjoying massive success in the English Premier League, being credited for the revival of Man United players including Marcus Rashford.
