Former Chelsea star Joe Cole has narrated the hilarious story of how he offered to give his Ferrari to Jose Mourinho in exchange for a new contract.

The incident happened a few years into Mourinho's first stint as Chelsea boss, where he had managed to lead the club to back-to-back Premier League title wins during the height of the Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger rivalry.

With the club going from strength to strength, many players wanted to stick around as they chased more silverware. Cole was particularly a key player for Mourinho, having starred in the two title wins. He won three Premier League overall during his seven-year stay in West London.

Cole's importance to the squad came with good remuneration. As Sport Bible reports, he decided to buy a rare and flashy Ferrari Scaglietti against his own judgement.

"Only once in my career did I buy a flash car. It was a Ferrari Scaglietti, around the year 2006. I convinced myself I should have one, but it did not feel right."

The England international pulled up in his Ferrari at Chelsea's training ground in Cobham and to his surprise, Mourinho took a liking to it. It is here that Cole conceived an ingenious plan to get his new contract over the line.

He offered to sell the automobile to the Portuguese manager, who in return, wouldl make sure the club offered him a new deal. Unluckily, 'The Special One' fell out with the then-Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich a few months later, with Cole leaving in 2010 after his deal had expired,

And on whether the sale of the Ferrari actually went through, remains unknown.

When Mourinho cried after defeat

Sports Brief has also reported that Mourinho has reportedly only ever cried once in his managerial career.

The legendary Portuguese boss has enjoyed highs and lows throughout his illustrious career that has seen him take charge of some of the world's best teams.

The Portuguese tactician revealed he has cried only once after a defeat in his managerial career. This was back in 2012 when he watched his side crash out of the UEFA Champions League in the semi-final stage.
