Kylian Mbappe found the back of the net in bizarre circumstances as Paris Saint-Germain stumbled to a shock home defeat against Lorient on Sunday.

Mbappe, who had scored three goals in his last two Ligue 1 games, was alert to pickpocket Lorient goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo before slipping home from close range to draw Les Parisiens level.

However, instead of his goal acting as a catalyst to inspire a comeback win, it rather inspired the visitors to dig deep and post a stunning 3-1 win at the Parc des Princes.

Enzo Le Fee broke the game's deadlock after 15 minutes before Mbappe equalized shortly before the half-hour mark. Lorient managed to restore their lead with six minutes to recess through Cameroon defender Darlin Yongwa.

Despite a VAR intervention to save the blushes of a lacklustre PSG team, Bamba Dieng ensured Christophe Galtier's charges ended the tie with their tails in between their legs when he poked home to give Lorient an unexpected 3-1 win.

Mbappe's bizarre goal

The highlight of the game, despite PSG's defeat, was the manner in which Mbappe scored. The 24-year-old, who was sensing blood lurked around the goal area of Lorient, hoping Mvogo will commit a rare mistake.

His instincts proved him right as the Lorient shot-stopper carelessly threw the ball into play to restart the game but was pickpocketed by a smart Mbappe, who wasted no time in poking home his 23rd goal of the season.
