But who is Lamine Yamal?

Lamine Yamal was born to a Moroccan father and an Equatoguinean mother in Esplugues de Llobregat, Spain. Yamal was quickly enrolled in the famous Barcelona Academy, La Masia, after showing great footballing potential at a very young age.

And during his team with La Masia, the young Spanish-Moroccan was miles ahead of his peers. This forced manager Xavi to invite him to first team training.

In September 2022, he started training with the senior side, before Xavi decided to include him in the squad in April 2023.

Last night, Yamal made history by becoming the club's youngest ever debutant.

International career options

Even though Yamal was born in Spain, he remains eligible to play for Morocco, Equatorial Guinea and La Furia Roja.

At just 15, he is a youth international for Spain, playing for the U15, U16, U17 and the U19's.

With his enormous talent, it wont be that long that these three countries will be fighting for his allegiance.

However, Spain are in pole position to secure the services of the talented winger at senior level.
