Barcelona’s financial struggles is forcing the Catalans to make some tough decisions, one of which now involves shutting down the club’s owned television station Barca TV.
The TV station, which first aired in July 1999, is set to broadcast for the final time on June 30, 2023 after Barcelona decided against renewing their agreement with the company that manages the club's television, TBSC Telefonica.
According to Tribal Football, the decision was made by Barcelona to reduce the Catalan club’s expenses and adapt to the parameters of Financial Fair Play demanded by La Liga.

Barca TV has also generated losses of €13 million annually in the last five years, as the channel has become unsustainable in the club’s current climate.
Disbanding the channel will see Barcelona save around €10m per year as they need to reduce their spending by €200m before they can return to the 1/1 rule implemented by La Liga.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are set to relieve over 150 staffs of their jobs following the club’s decision to shut down its television station Barca TV, Marca reports.
The Barcelona board has already informed the 150 professionals who work in the media, including contractors and collaborators, of the decision as they aim to mitigate their worsening financial crisis.
New formulas are being sought after by the Catalans to maintain the club’s image and continue issuing its audiovisual content using the club’s strong presence on social media.
