Football5 Times Teams Mounted Title Comebacks As Arsenal Look for Miracle Against Man City
- Arsenal's loss to Manchester City on April 26 put a severe dent on their title hopes this season
- The Gunners will now need Manchester City to drop points to get back into the equation
- As history suggests, it is not entirely out of question for a team to do the impossible
The Arsenal fanbase is most probably still reeling from shock from how their promising season has quickly unravelled.
After leading the log for the better part of the season, there was a growing sense of belief that Mikel Arteta's young guns could win the club's first title since the Invincibles of Arsene Wenger in 2004.
However, after the 4-1 shellacking at Manchester City on April 26 and the three consecutive draws before that, the tide has quickly turned in Pep Guardiola's favour. City are now two points behind Arsenal, having played two games less.
But as Sports Brief delves into it, all hope is not lost for Arsenal yet. Daily Star reports that teams have in the past mounted improbable comebacks to win the league.

1. Borussia Dortmund - 2011/2012
It is not often that you hear a team not named Bayern Munich winning the German Bundesliga. In 2012, Jurgen Klopp's Dortmund defied all odds to pip the Bavarians and win the title.
The Yellow Wall lost three games in their first six of the season, had an eight-point gap to recover at one point, but at the end of it all, they beat Bayern to the title.
2. Manchester City- 2011/2012
This will always be referred to as the "Aguerooo" title. Sir Alex Ferguson had expected another routine title win only for Roberto Mancini's side to close down an eight-point gap and win the title on the last day.

FootballMario Balotelli's assist, the only one he ever had in the Premier League, made all the difference.
3. Arsenal - 1997/1998
The current Arsenal side can draw inspiration from Wenger's squad of 1998. It was the height of the Wenger-Ferguson rivalry, with the latter holding an 11-point lead at one time.
Arsenal had three games in hand, which they won, but the real turning point was a 1-0 win at Old Trafford.
4. Manchester United -1995/1996
Well, this was down to a classic case of 'bottle job' from Newcastle United, who threw away a 12-point lead.
The Magpies won only two games in eight as Ferguson's side embarked on a splendid run of form in the second half of the season.
5. Manchester United - 2002/2003
Looks like Ferguson was 'HIM' when it came to comebacks. The Red Devils went on an unbeaten run from Boxing Day to the end of the season to nullify what was at one point an Arsenal eight-point lead.

Times teams blew away leads
This season, there was a time Arsenal held an eight-point gap over Pep Guardiola's side. As Sports Brief earlier reported, they wouldn't be the first team to bottle such a significant lead should the Citizens pip them to it. Worse has happened.
After three consecutive draws, the loss at Etihad and Manchester City's imperious streak of good results, the title now seems a little bit too far for Arsenal.
It is ironic that Arsenal can end on either list this season with less than 8 games of the campaign to go.
