  • Manchester City demolished title rivals Arsenal 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium last night
  • The win moved City to within two points of Arsenal with two games in hand
  • Gary Neville's earlier assessment of the Gunners has resurfaced after their loss away at City

Arsenal seems to be proving Gary Neville's assessment of their season in January right, after they crumbled to a 4-1 defeat away at title rivals Manchester City.

The highly anticipated match was not much of a contest. It was one-sided as Pep Guardiola's men made light work of the young Arsenal squad.

Kevin De Bruyne scored twice via Erling Haaland's assists on either side of John Stone's header, before the Norwegian added the fourth in the game's closing minutes.

According to Opta Stats, Arsenal's chances of lifting the title diminished to just 8%, while the Citizens' chances of retaining their title rose to 92%.

Gary Neville proved right?

In January, former Manchester United defender and pundit Gary Neville predicted that Arsenal would not win the title despite being 11 points clear of City at that time.

''Arsenal have struggled in the latter parts of seasons, with last season the most recent example of this. This is why Manchester City will win the Premier League because when it gets to the last 10 games, Arsenal will start to panic a little bit, the anxiety will kick in, and pressure builds,'' he said on Sky Sports.

The Gunners have lost both games to City with an aggregate scoreline of 7-2. Also, playing three consecutive draws against Liverpool, West Ham, and relegation-threatened Southampton before last night, it seems to be over for their title aspirations.

The Gunners seem to have proved the pundit right despite coming under social media attacks for the comments back then.

Arteta warns players against fear

Sports Brief reported that Arteta warned Arsenal players against fear when they take to the pitch against Manchester City.

The Spaniard appeared like he saw the future after his team produced a lacklustre and spineless display to lose in an embarrassing fashion against the team they wanted to unseat for that title.
