Chelsea's limp Champions League exit completes season from hell
Football
Chelsea are expected to announce a new permanent manager next week but he will reportedly not take over until the season is over, meaning Frank Lampard will continue until the last game this term.
The club legend was surprisingly hired as caretaker manager after Graham Potter was rightfully shown the exit and his assistant, Bruno Saltor rejected the interim role.
Lampard has managed five games and lost them all, with the team conceding nine goals and scoring just once, through Conor Gallagher in the 2-1 loss to Brighton.
The 2-0 home loss to Brentford last night sparked a reaction from Blues fans, who booed the players off the pitch at half-time with the scoreline at 1-0 due to a Cesar Azpilicueta own goal, as talkSPORT reports.

The Telegraph reports that former Tottenham boss, Mauricio Pochettino is on the verge of becoming the new Chelsea coach, with initial talks said to be positive and the Argentine noted as open to accepting the role.
The news initially received some negative reactions from the Blues faithful, who share poor opinions of the former Paris Saint-Germain manager and his lack of trophies.
At this point, however, the supporters no longer seem to care. They want to be relieved of the misery under Lampard, as reported by Sun UK.
One fan wrote:
"Just get Poch in now. It can’t get any worse than it already is. Let him have an extended pre season."
Another agreed:
"Dear @todd_boehly, Get Pochettino in NOW, not later. We’re suffering badly. This isn’t even funny anymore, it’s straight inhumane torture. We can’t take this anymore, it’s getting ridiculous."

FootballA fan fumed at Lampard's selections:
"Six attackers on the bench, and one on the field. Honestly, just get Poch in now FFS. Absolute disgrace of a lineup and subs bench, even if we get something out of this. Bench still full of players we are going to sell. Absolute joke."
Sports Brief also reported on Chelsea fans leaving the stadium with five minutes still to go after the embarrassing scoreline and display by the team.
Some sections of Blues fans could not bear to watch any further and walked out, while some others saw the game to its end but booed the players.
