Jose Mourinho is unarguably one of the greatest football managers of all time.

However, it was during his time with Porto that he announced himself to the world, after Mourinho famously led the European giants to Champions League glory in 2004.

He was subsequently snapped up by Chelsea, who he helped win three Premier League titles across two spells between 2004 and 2015.

Between that period, Mourinho managed Inter Milan and Real Madrid before he took charge of Manchester United after the dismissal of Louis van Gaal.

Mourinho returns to Serie A

In 2021, Mourinho's Premier League spell was cut shockingly short after Tottenham Hotspur sacked him.

The Portuguese was on the verge of leading the north Londoners to their first trophy in a long time in the form of the EFL Cup, when his contract was terminated abruptly.

However, he did not spend a lot of time out of work as Roma came calling soon after.

The Italian giants went on to appoint the ex-Premier League coach as their new boss in the summer of 2021, replacing Paulo Fonseca, who had endured a disastrous run of results at the time.

Mourinho's spell at Roma

The former Man United manager has been a revelation since his arrival at the Stadio Olimpico.

Mourinho has turned Roma's fortunes around during his short stay at the club, with the tactician managing to live up to the 'Special One' tag.

It was after his arrival that the club ended their long wait for a trophy, winning the inaugural Europa Conference League trophy last season after they beat Feyenoord.

Incidentally, ESPN records indicate this was Roma's first UEFA triumph in the history of the club.

According to Sporting News, the Italian club had not won any trophy for years prior to their ECL win, with their last triumph coming during the 2007/08 campaign when they lifted the Coppa Italia.

Mourinho is already on course to winning them the Europa League title this term, with the Serie A side already through to the semis.

Additionally, the Stadio Olimpico-based outfit are in a pole position to finish in the top four and qualify for next season's Champions League.

Mourinho aims dig at Sarri

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Roma boss, Mourinho taking a sly dig at his counterpart, Maurizio Sarri, who is currently managing Lazio.

The two Rome-based teams are currently embroiled in an intense race for a top-four finish with only a handful of Serie A games left to go.

To be fair to Mourinho’s side, they were inside the top four but that changed after Juventus’ 15-point reduction was reversed by the league., which effectively meant the Old Lady had their 15-points restored.

Regardless, the Giallorossi are still well placed to qualify for the Champions League as they are only behind fourth-placed Milan on goal difference.
