A section of football fans clad in Barcelona jerseys were spotted cheering on Girona, as the Catalan side stunned Real Madrid at the Estadio Municipal de Montilivi on Tuesday evening.

Taty Castellanos, on loan from MLS side, New York City FC, stole the headlines with an impressive four goals as Girona hit Los Blancos for four.

The Argentine forward helped Girona race to a two-nil lead with a brace in 25 minutes, before completing the demolishing exercise all by himself with two goals in the second half.

Carlo Ancelotti's men could only stumble to a humbling 4-2 loss, the BBC reports.

Madrid's defeat helps La Liga leaders and eternal rivals, Barcelona edge closer to their first league trophy since 2019 with a healthy 11-point lead, which could stretch to 14 if La Blaugrana record a win at Rayo Vallecano, per Eurosport.

While pain and misery were boldly written on the faces of Los Blancos fans and players, it was pure joy and elation on the opposite end as Girona fans celebrated well into the night.

However, they were not the only excited sect of people at the stadium, with fans of crosstown rivals, Barcelona joining hands with Girona supporters to celebrate their famous win.

Castellanos makes La Liga history

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Girona striker, Castellanos becoming the first player to score four goals in one game against Real Madrid in La Liga since 1947, in his side's 4-2 triumph on Tuesday.

The forward put on a lethal display of finishing to stun the defending champions and virtually extinguish any remaining hopes they had of defending their title against El Clasico rivals, Barcelona.

Castellanos hit two goals each in both halves of the thrilling encounter to ensure Girona secured an impressive victory over Carlo Ancelotti's side, who were left utterly humiliated by the result.
