Brighton's Solly March was the villain as he missed his spot kick, before United's Victor Lindelof stepped up to score the winner.

Weghorst's 'kiss of death'

Incidentally, Weghorst appeared to have had a hand in March's spot kick miss, with the Dutch star involved in penalty antics moments before the Brighton star stepped up.

The Dutch striker had just buried his own effort inside the net when he picked up the ball, gave it the so-called 'kiss of death' and handed it to his opponent with a few choice words.

Surprisingly, March went on to blaze his penalty over the bar, with fans quickly acknowledging Weghorst's role in the costly penalty miss.

The Man United star has since opened up on his antics and admitted he felt sorry for the Brighton player.

"Yeah, I already said it actually before we started to some of the guys but nobody did it. I scored and then I saw the ball and tried to get a few advantages which could maybe help us win it," Weghorst said via The Mirror.

Weghorst admitted he was not certain if his antics had made a difference but felt compelled to try them anyway.

"I walked to [March] and said some things, but at the end [of the match] I went to him because I felt also a little bit sorry because obviously this was the one that they missed," he added.

What did Weghorst do?

As earlier reported by Sports Brief, many believe Weghorst's antics helped his team reach a second final in less than four months.

With the game still goalless after extra time, it came down to penalties to determine who would face Man City in the final of the FA Cup.

After making his attempt, Weghorst picked up the ball and appeared to kiss it in an attempt to destabilise March, who was up next.
