FootballTen Hag Snubbed Wout Weghorst’s Penalty Request Before His ‘Dark Magic’ vs Brighton
- Wout Weghorst admitted he was overlooked by Erik ten Hag for the penalty shootouts
- He would take the sixth penalty after the first five for each team failed to yield a result
- It is also believed Weghorst played a role in Solly March missing his effort for Brighton
Wout Weghorst has revealed that Erik ten Hag turned down his request to be one of Manchester United's five penalty-takers during their FA Cup semi-final against Brighton.
Roberto De Zerbi's side forced the Red Devils all the way to penalties on April 23 but unfortunately, lost out after Solly March blazed his effort over the bar.
Ten Hag is said to have had a preplanned list of penalty takers and shot down Weghorst's request to be included among the first five.
However, as fate would have had it, the Dutchman ended up taking a penalty after no team gained an advantage after each of the initial five attempts.

He sank his effort with precision and then employed what some fans online have described as 'black magic' to help his team advance.
Weghorst played a crucial role in getting into March's head, who sent his effort over the bar and left Victor Lindelof to score the winning penalty.
"I wanted to take one, I wanted to take one of the first five. But the trainer decided this. But, yeah, I’m glad I could contribute to today, so personally, that’s a good feeling," Weghorst said, as quoted by Goal.
The Dutch forward also excited Man United fans by sprinting over to celebrate with them after Lindelof had scored.
What did Weghorst do?
As earlier reported by Sports Brief, many believe Weghorst's antics helped his team reach a second final in less than four months.
