  • Wout Weghorst plan to get into Solly March's head worked during the FA Cup semi-final shootout
  • The Manchester United striker kissed the ball before giving it to the Brighton man, who missed
  • Weghorst celebrated afterwards with an insane run to the Man United supporters after they won

The 'Kiss of Death' - that was the general consensus among many fans as soon as Brighton's Solly March skied his penalty on April 23, sending Manchester United into the FA Cup final on April 23.

March was the only player to miss a penalty in a shootout where each team took seven spot kicks apiece. Wout Weghorst was the perpetrator in chief as he helped his side qualify for a second final in less than four months.

With the game still goalless after normal time and extra time, the teams headed to penalties to determine who would face Manchester City in the final on June 3.

All of the first five takers converted their kicks, forcing a sudden death situation. Adam Webster came up first for the Seagulls and converted his spot kick, with Weghorst responding with another clinical effort of his own.

Weghorst kisses the ball

As the Dutchman left the penalty area, he picked up the ball and appeared to kiss it in an attempt to destabilise March, who had already made his way up.

The Brighton utility player did not pay much attention to the United striker's antics and took the ball from him.

March then skied his penalty, further fuelling speculation that whatever Weghorst did might have worked. Victor Lindelof then stepped up to send Erik ten Hag's side into the final.

The Dutchman was then spotted making a crazy run from the halfway line to the other goal area, to celebrate with Manchester United fans who had made the trip to Wembley Stadium.

The Red Devils will now have the chance to win both domestic cups after lifting the Carabao Cup in February.

Sports Brief also reported that beyond Manchester City booking their place in the FA Cup final against Man United, South African football fans noticed something interesting.

On advertising boards surrounding the pitch at Wembley Stadium, the Orlando Pirates insignia appeared at regular intervals, followed by sportswear giant, Adidas' branding.

The Citizens swept to a comfortable 3-0 win against Sheffield United on Saturday afternoon to reach the final, courtesy of a Riyad Mahrez hat-trick on Saturday afternoon.
