Former Arsenal attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil has been hailed by Super Eagles legend Jay-Jay Okocha who claimed that the German had an incredible football career during his active playing days.

There is no doubt about the fact that Ozil was one of the finest midfielders when he was active considering his performances while playing in the Spanish La Liga and also in the Premier League.

According to the report on Soccernet, Okocha explained that Ozil was the best of his generation and someone the younger players should emulate.

Okocha's statement about Ozil

“He had an excellent career. He was the best of his generation. An excellent human being. He is an exemplary player for young players. Maybe he came here when Fenerbahçe was bad. You also need luck. A worldwide name. As a member of the German National Team, it was a great race as a person of Turkish origin. We know about his career at Real Madrid and Arsenal. It naturally shows him to be one of the best of his era. He also has excellent character.”

Ozil retires from football

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Mesut Ozil announced his retirement from professional football after enjoying a 17-year-long successful career in which he played for some of the best teams in the world.

The Turkish-German star was one of the most talented footballers of his generation and one of the most controversial.

He earned a reputation for his vision, passing, and creativity and is regarded by many as one of the last proper number 10s, a dying role in modern football.

He spent time playing in Germany, Spain, England and Turkey for top clubs, including Real Madrid and Arsenal
