  • The race for the vacant Chelsea managerial position is down to three candidates
  • Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is said to be leading while Vincent Kompany is also considered
  • Australian manager Ange Postecoglou has been revealed as the secret candidate

Chelsea are continuing their search for a new permanent manager to take over the team from the start of next season, with Frank Lampard set to step down in the summer.

The club hierarchy are taking their time for the comprehensive search to avoid making mistakes, similar to what they did when they hired Potter hastily and fired him after seven months.

Manchester City legend and Burnley manager Vincent Kompany has emerged as one of the candidates that could take over the vacant managerial reins at Stamford Bridge.

Earlier favourites Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann have both dropped out of the race due to concerns by the Chelsea bosses as some factors could not be agreed upon, according to Goal.

Kompany's comment on Chelsea job

According to Guardian, Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is the mystery candidate and will join leading contenders Mauricio Pochettino and Vincent Kompany in the final three, with a decision set to be made in 10 days.

After guiding Burnley to a 2-1 home loss to QPR, which further delayed their status as Championship winners, the Belgian spoke on the rumours as quoted by Metro UK.

‘‘I’ve said I’m not engaging in any of these conversations. I have too much at this moment in time in my head in terms of wanting to win football matches. That’s the only thing I care about,’’ he said.

The former Anderlecht player and manager is impressing many across Europe after reclaiming Burnley's Premier League status in his first year and changing their old way of play from a low-block team to an attacking team.

Why Nagelsmann rejected Chelsea job

Sports Brief reported that Julian Nagelsmann turned down Chelsea job due to the ongoing backroom chaos at the club that has seen four different men oversee at least a game this season.

The German wants a project with a solid ground and not one like Chelsea that is just building and making incessant decisions based on owners' interests.

He also claimed he was never interested in the job after saying ‘to cancel something, you have to commit to something first.’
