FootballRare ‘Win’ for Chelsea Owners As Thomas Tuchel Struggles at Bayern Munich
- Todd Boehly's first season as Chelsea owner has been a disaster, to say the least
- Chelsea are currently in the bottom half of the Premier League table
- But recent results in the Bundesliga and Thomas Tuchel have perhaps gone their way
The era of Chelsea's new ownership under Todd Boehly has been characterised by one mistake after another. Chelsea is set to finish without a trophy this season and perhaps record their worst-ever finish in the Premier League in recent times.
From sacking Thomas Tuchel to hiring a managerial novice in Graham Potter to replacing him with a manager that has struggled in the Premier League, the Head Coach position has been a tough nut to crack for Boehly.
Decisions Boehly got wrong
His reign started with major overhauls that saw chairman Bruce Buck, director Marina Granovskaia and club legend and technical director Petr Cech all depart. The three, especially Granovskaia, were part of the much-heralded success under Roman Abramovich.

That Boehly wanted to mould Chelsea to his own liking with his own staff can't be faulted. It was well within his rights. However, he seemingly undertook the process without a clear plan which included installing himself to oversee operations despite no known background in managing football issues - let alone that of a top-six club and a recent Champions League winner.
His inexperience was quickly recognised as Chelsea brought in a flurry of new players for 'exorbitant' prices. A case in point was Marc Cucurella might have had a promising debut season at Brighton but paying 62 million euros for him was bonkers.
Then came the Tuchel decision that the Chelsea faithful struggled to come to terms with. Admittedly, the German had registered unpromising results at the start of the campaign, but the feeling was rife that he could still turn it around.

FootballGraham Potter's ill-fated reign
As a devastated Tuchel took to Twitter to relay his disappointments, Boehly and his co-controlling owners moved in and paid off Brighton to secure the services of Graham Potter. Potter has often been touted as one of the most interesting managers.
After an impressive 10-game start at West London, life started to unravel quickly for the 47-year-old. Injuries to Chelsea's main threats, Reece James and Ben Chilwell, didn't help him either. He struggled to remain afloat until he was eventually relieved of his duties in April.
By submitting to pressure and sacking Potter, Boehly and Co admitted that they had done a mistake in hiring him in the first place. They took a step back and decided not to rush the process of getting a new manager and in came Frank Lampard.
The decision to hire Lampard on an interim basis made a lot of sense at that time, as explained previously by Sport Brief. However, four games in, the club legend has lost all the games scoring only one in the process as Chelsea fans cry for the season to end already.

FootballTuchel's misfortunes in Germany
The only silver lining for Boehly in perhaps a cruel way is that the manager Chelsea fans dearly loved is struggling at his new workstation. When Tuchel took over Julian Nagelsmann, many thought he would walk European football again, given that the Bavarians have a much stronger squad than what he had to work with at Chelsea.
But barely a month after his appointment, Tuchel has already ceded the top spot in Bundesliga to Borussia Dortmund, eliminated from the DFB Pokal by Freiburg and most importantly, knocked out of the Champions League by Manchester City.
There have been calls for the Bayern board to give way but at the moment, Tuchel is facing a battle of his life to win the Bundesliga in his first season in Munich.
The backlash for Boehly could have been worse had Tuchel started off magnificently in Germany. Looks like has been spared those blushes as he grapples to get in a new manager.
