  • Julian Nagelsmann is currently without a job after he was shockingly sacked at Bayern Munich
  • Reports claim the German was among the favourites to become Chelsea's permanent boss
  • However, Nagelsmann is believed to have turned down the chance of taking charge at Stamford Bridge

Details have emerged on why immediate former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann rejected the chance to become Chelsea's new manager.

The Blues are in the market for a permanent manager who will replace Graham Potter, who was sacked earlier in the month after a disastrous run of form.

Frank Lampard is currently in charge of the west London club, albeit on a temporary basis until the end of the season.

According to The Mirror, Chelsea are said to have drawn up an eight-man shortlist for the vacant Stamford Bridge role, with Nagelsmann believed to have been among those being targeted.

Other experienced managers who have been linked with the hot seat include former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino and former Spain head coach Luis Enrique.

Nagelsmann disinterested in Chelsea job

However, it has now emerged that Nagelsmann has withdrawn from the race to become the next Chelsea manager.

Sport1 reports the German turned down the opportunity as wants a 'project that is on solid ground.'

Additionally, the 35-year-old is said to have been put off by the backroom chaos witnessed at Stamford Bridge.

The development comes just days after Nagelsmann inadvertently disclosed he was never interested in the Chelsea job.

"To cancel something, you have to commit to something first," he told Sky Sports, as quoted by Sportbible.

Chelsea have endured a frustrating run of form across competitions, with the side set to end the season without a trophy.

The Blues were recently dumped out of the Champions League and are in danger of missing out on a European football spot.

Nagelsmann vs Enrique

The dismissal of Graham Potter presented an opportunity for the owners to make the right decision of hiring a new manager.

Club legend Frank Lampard was roped in as a, 'we continue our thorough and exhaustive process for a permanent head coach.'

According to multiple media outlets, 'the permanent head coach' search has been narrowed down to either Julian Nagelsmann or Luis Enrique.

Sports Brief takes a look at both managers, their tactics and how each could fit Chelsea's plan.
