FootballRichards Bay FC Avoids Embarrassing Record in Draw With Maritzburg United
- At one point this season, Richards Bay FC was well-placed to finish in second place on the DStv Premiership table in their first season in the top-flight
- However, they went on a dreadful run of form which saw them plummet down the log table
- This poor stretch saw them enter the record books, though they avoided the 'worst-ever' tag with a timely result on Friday
Richards Bay FC avoided the ignominy of climbing up the list of teams with the worst losing streaks in the Premier Soccer League when they drew 1-1 at Maritzburg United in Friday’s DStv Premiership clash.
Richards Bay went into the match at the Harry Gwala Stadium on the back of seven successive losses in league matches and moving close to joining the list of clubs with the worst-ever losing streak in Premier Soccer League history.
They had last picked up a point in a 1-1 draw with AmaZulu at the end of January, after which they lost in successive league matches to Swallows (0-1), Sekhukhune United (0-2), Stellenbosch (1-2), Kaizer Chiefs (0-1), TS Galaxy (0-4), Orlando Pirates (0-2) and Lamontville Golden Arrows (0-1) before Friday’s draw.
The record for the worst losing run record in DStv Premiership history belongs to Mother City, who lost their last 13 games of the 1999/2000 season and were relegated to complete a horror campaign that saw them win just two of their 34 matches.

Rich Boyz throw away points
Sports Brief reported on the encounter between the Team of Choice and Rich Boyz on Friday night.
It took place at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg, an apt setting for a KwaZulu-Natal derby in the capital.
The visitors will be kicking themselves, for they had the three points in the bag until they lost concentration at the death.
