FootballRonaldo to Face No Punishment After Making Obscene Gestures Believed to Be Related to Messi
- The Saudi Arabia League will take no action on Cristiano Ronaldo's perceived obscene gestures
- Ronaldo was seen grabbing his crotch area as rival fans chanted the name of rival Lionel Messi
- Al-Nassr have since explained that their captain was only reacting to an injury he had suffered
Cristiano Ronaldo is set to get off scot-free after he was accused of making an obscene gesture, during a top-flight league match in Saudi Arabia on April 18.
Ronaldo was part of the Al-Nassr team that went 2-0 down to Al-Hilal, with the loss leaving his team three points off the top. League leaders, Al-Ittihad, have played a game less.
After the game, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner left the pitch and was clearly upset by the result. Throughout his career, the veteran has always held himself to high standards, with any form of loss frowned upon.
As he walked down the tunnel, opposition fans chanted the name of his archrival, Lionel Messi. Ronald was then seen grabbing his crotch area.

It remains unclear if the two incidents were related, but the gesture has provoked discussion online nonetheless.
Al-Nassr explain Ronaldo's gesture
Al-Nassr has jumped to the defence of their captain, claiming he was simply reacting to an injury he got during the match.
"Ronaldo suffers from an injury. His challenge with Gustavo Cuellar, the Al-Hilal player, started with a blow in a very sensitive area. This is confirmed information. As for the fans’ explanations, they are free to think whatever they want," the club said in a statement.
The 38-year-old will face no further action from the league after the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee reviewed the report by match officials - and perhaps surprisingly, not the trending videos online.

Fans wanted Ronaldo expelled
Sports Brief had earlier reported that the apparent obscene gesture drew widespread criticism in the Islamic country, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
Soon afterwards, 'expelling the fan's abuser' trended online as fans in the country called for Ronaldo to be expelled. His club believe the incident is blown out of proportion.
The seemingly lewd gesture was not the first time he reacted angrily to fans chanting Messi’s name, with supporters often winding him up with chants since his Al-Nassr move.
