  • Napoli director Cristiano Giuntoli says he has zero regrets about not signing Cristiano Ronaldo
  • Ronaldo was linked with Napoli in November 2022 after a sensational fallout with Manchester United
  • He ended up settling in Saudi Arabia with Al Nassr, but his time in the Middle East has had mixed fortunes

Napoli director Cristiano Giuntoli has come out to boldly claim the club has no regrets after failing to land Cristiano Ronaldo.

Gli Azzurri have been struggling for goals in recent games, despite enjoying a handsome lead at the top of the Serie A.

On Tuesday, April 19, the came up against their Italian counterparts AC Milan in the Champions League quarter final second leg hoping to overturn a 1-0 deficit.

AC Milan started with the same squad that beat Napoli 4-0 in a comprehensive performance earlier in April, while Napoli boss Luciano Spaletti was forced into several changes with the absence of Kim Min-jae and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa through suspension and Giovanni Simeone still recovering from injury.

With Nigerian superstar Victor Osimhen back in action from injury, it came as a slight boost for Napoli, but they fell short in the second leg as they could only manage a 1-1 draw.

“We never thought of CR7”

Prior to the Champions League second leg, Giuntoli was asked about claims Napoli wanted to sign Ronaldo over the summer, something he strongly denied.

“In all honesty, we never even thought about it. We had some financial parameters we needed to stick to and thought we could surprise people more with a group of lads who were eager to prove themselves.” He said as per FootballItalia.

Ronaldo joined Al Nassr at the turn of the year, and has been in decent goal-scoring form for the Saudi Arabia giants.

As per Transfermkt, Ronaldo has 11 goals in Saudi Arabia.

There has however been a general feeling that Al Nassr has fallen off since the Portugal star’s arrival as the club is in danger of missing out on the league title, despite dominating the league this season prior to Ronaldo’s arrival.

Cristiano taunted with Messi chants

Sports Brief also reported on how Ronaldo was taunted with chants of Lionel Messi on Tuesday.

It was a frustrating night for the Portuguese phenom, whose side was dealt a crushing blow thanks to a brace from Nigerian striker Idion Ighalo at the King Fahd International Stadium.

The result left Al-Nassr three points behind Saudi Pro League leaders Al-Ittihad.
