  • Chelsea suffered a fourth straight defeat under Frank Lampard on April 18
  • Despite creating many chances, the Blues fell short again vs Real Madrid
  • Lampard later lamented Chelsea not taking full advantage of opportunities

Chelsea interim manager, Frank Lampard was critical of his side’s failure to take chances after another lowly defeat at the hands of Real Madrid.

A disastrous season for the Blues was summed up on Tuesday as a trophyless campaign was confirmed, following their exit from Europe’s elite competition.

Two strikes from Rodrygo were enough to see Chelsea suffer a 4-0 aggregate defeat, with Frank Lampard succumbing to a fourth successive defeat in his second stint at the helm at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard laments Chelsea's missed changes

Speaking after the game, Lampard stated no player would be allowed to simply ‘see out the season’ despite there being practically nothing to fight for with a handful of games remaining.

"I won't let anyone off the hook in terms of seeing this season out. It has to be the opposite," he said, as per the BBC.

According to the club's all-time top scorer, the game against Real Madrid was one of Chelsea’s better ones but the players were still falling short in terms of finishing their chances.

"It's not for the want of trying. We had lots of crosses and lots of players in good positions so I will never criticise the lads for that - it's just the fact that if they took any of those chances. If the tie went to 2-1 at any point, you really would have felt the crowd turn."

As it stands, Chelsea sit in 11th place on the log, 10 points behind Brighton in seventh place - the final European spot. This is a far cry from what was expected of the team, having spent a massive £600 million in transfers.

Drogba slams Chelsea owners

Elsewhere, Sports Brief reported on Didier Drogba’s scathing assessment of Chelsea's owners after the club's dismal Champions League exit.

The Chelsea legend took aim at the Clearlake consortium, led by Todd Boehly, which acquired ownership after Roman Abramovich's forced sale.

Despite pumping in millions of Euros in two transfer windows and four managers contracted this season, Chelsea are yet to find a winning formula . Four managers have already been contracted this season.
