The DStv Diski Challenge title race will go down to the wire

This past weekend's matches proved that the exciting title race is far from over.

SuperSport United and Cape Town City played a thrilling 3-3 draw in a top-of-the-table clash at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday.

The two sides went to this game with United sitting at the top of the Diski Challenge table, while The Cityzens were second. Luphumlo Sifumba scored a brace for City, while the other goal came from Luke Daniels.

In the opposition, Shandre Campbell, Aphiwe Baliti and Keenan Bezuidenhout were all on the scoresheet. Despite not getting maximum points, SuperSport remained at the top of the Diski Challenge table. The Capetonians will keep the second spot for another weekend.

The draw between the two sides was favourable for Orlando Pirates, who were held to a goalless draw by Marumo Gallants on Saturday.

With four games remaining, it remains to be seen who will be consistent and go all the way to clinch the Diski Challenge title. On Sunday morning, TS Galaxy mopped the floor with Kaizer Chiefs beating them 6-3.

Sanele Zulu, Aphelele Teto, Danyal Daya and Banele Nkosi [brace] earned The Rockets their first-ever victory over Chiefs. Mfundo Vilakazi, Puso Dithejane and Neo Bohloko scored for Amakhosi, but their goals were not enough to earn them something out of this match.

Other Sunday results:

Royal AM 2-1 Chippa United

AmaZulu 1-1 Sekhukhune United

Richards Bay FC 0-0 Maritzburg United

Mamelodi Sundowns 3-0 Stellenbosch FC

Young Bucs blow opportunity

Orlando Pirates will have no one but themselves to blame after squandering an opportunity of moving to the top of the DStv Diski Challenge table.

The Buccaneers were held to a goalless draw by plucky Marumo Gallants at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto. Pirates went to this match as favourites to get all three points to enhance their chances of winning the league.

However, Gallants had different plans displaying one of their best performance this season. Early in the game Pirates were put under immense pressure by Gallants. Nevertheless, they were able to contain the pressure and did not crack. They then regrouped to play their normal football and dominated Gallants.

They created numerous chances but could not find the back of the net as Gallants goalkeeper Bareng Ledwaba fought tooth and nail to keep a clean sheet on the day. Mehluleli Maphumulo, Mohau Nkota and Sonwabo Khumqlo had their fair share of chances but could not use them.

The draw means Pirates remains in position three in the Diski Challenge table with four matches remaining. In another match on Saturday morning at Dobsonville Stadium, Golden Arrows hammered Swallows FC 5-0.

Samukelo Mzolo scored a hattrick taking his tally to 14 goals in the Diski Challenge. Mthokozisi Duma and Kwanele Majozi scored the other two goals.
