  • The 22-year old midfielder was then ruthlessly taken off by Massimiliano Allegri
  • Juventus ended up losing 1-0 to Sassuolo in what was a blow to their overall European ambitions

Juventus midfielder Nicolò Fagioli was inconsolable on the bench after a costly mistake that led to his side’s 1-0 defeat to Sassuolo.

The 22-year-old made a poor clearance which was pounced on by Sassuolo sub-Gregoire Defrel, who fired in a goal after 64 minutes.

Juventus endured a frustrating evening on Sunday, April 16, and were unable to find the net, with the defeat leaving them four points adrift of a Champions League place.

Fagioli will surely know the cost of his poor clearance, as he was spotted on the bench in tears after manager Massimiliano Allegri decided to haul him off immediately after the mistake, as reported on The Sun.

The midfielder was so distraught on the bench that he covered his face as he balled in tears as teammates tried to console him.

On social media, fans were torn as to whether Allegri might have damaged the 22-year-old’s confidence by taking him off at the Mapei Stadium.

Filip Kostic was also taken off at the same time as Fagioli, with Allegri making a double change by bringing on Fabio Miretti and Federico Chiesa, but his tactical tweak proved futile as The Old Lady succumbed to defeat.

Ciro Immobile involved in accident in Rome

Elsewhere, Sports Brief reported on how Lazio captain Ciro Immobile narrowly escaped with his life after a scary accident in Rome.

Immobile was driving home with his two daughters on the morning of Sunday, April 16, in his Land Rover SUV at the time of the incident.

He hurt his shoulder in the process and is likely to be out for several games as a result.
