Massive Relief As Over 50 Afghan Sportswomen Flown Out Of Country Amid Political Crisis

• The lives of 50 sporting Afghaistani women were saved after they were evacuated from their country with the help of Australia
• The footballers and athletes were safely taken out of the troubled region to help save their respective careers
• Taliban forces have retaken the Afghan capital in Kabul as many citizens are currently stranded in their country after the United States forces left

The Afghanistan women will be counting the lucky stars after Australia came to their rescue to give respite.

BBC reports that about 50 women who participate in sporting activities for the Middle East nation were evacuated from their country that has been taken over by Taliban forces.

Ex-Afghan captain's opinion

Former national women's captain Khalida Popal also stated that it was an important victory in saving the lives of women in her country.

The 34-year-old said:

"The women footballers have been brave and strong in a moment of crisis and we hope they will have a better life outside Afghanistan.

"Women's football is a family and we must make sure everyone is safe."

Fifpro's appeal

An appeal by world bodies Fifa and Fifpro led to the evacuation of women which comprises footballers and athletes.

Fifpro expressed gratitude to Australia after the women who were in serious danger were flown out of the country.

"These young women, both as athletes and activists, have been in a position of danger and on behalf of their peers around the world we thank the international community for coming to their aid."

Meanwhile, a 19-year old Afghan player fell to his death after attempting to cling to a US plane airlifting the people of Kabul.

Zaki Anwari, a member of his country’s national youth team, attempted to hold on to the outside of the American military aircraft as it departed from Hamid Karzai international airport.

A harrowing video that has since been shared on social media appears to show two people falling to their deaths from a C-17 aircraft.

The Guardian further reports that an Afghan news agency since confirmed that one of the people who plunged to their demise was Anwari.
