  • Thirty matches have been played so far this term in the Premier League with Arsenal topping the table
  • Some Super Eagles players playing in the English top flight are not finding it rosy with their clubs
  • The likes of Taiwo Awoniyi, Ndidi, Aribo, Iheanacho are currently in the drop zone with their teams

With eight round of matches remaining to be played this season in the Premier League, it is widely stated that the battle for title is between Arsenal and Manchester City.

Mikel Arteta and his wards have been impressive this term in the English top flight and their fans are anxiously hoping they win the title, despite the Citizens piling the pressure on them.

As it stands, there is no Nigerian player currently playing for Arsenal or Man City, which means no fan in the west African nation will celebrate either club winning the EPL title this term.

Nigerian players in the EPL

Alex Iwobi

Iwobi and his teammates at Everton are currently occupying 17th position on the Premier League table. The Super Eagles forward has managed to score one goal this term for his team.

Taiwo Awoniyi and Emmanuel Dennis

The Super Eagles duo of Awoniyi and Dennis were both signed last summer by Nottingham Forest to help them stabilise in the Premier League, but the club could be making a return to the Championship this summer regardless.

Forest are currently in the drop zone as they sit 18th on the EPL table.

Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho

Due to poor form of run this term in the EPL, Rodgers was sacked at Leicester City as the club continue their battle to escape relegation.

Ndidi, Iheanacho, and their teammates at Leicester are currently occupying 19th position on the Premier League standings.

Paul Onuachu and Joe Aribo

In the January transfer window, Onuachu was signed by Southampton with the hope that the Nigerian would get them goals. However, he has been struggling since he arrived England.

Onuachu and his countryman, Aribo - alongside their teammates at the Saints - currently sit 20th on the Premier League table.

Awoniyi once worked as bricklayer

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Awoniyi revealing his tough football journey saw him on the streets of Ilorin in the Kwara State, doing menial jobs just to buy a pair of boots.

The former Liverpool player, who just returned to Nottingham's squad after being out of action for two months due to injury, looked back at the difficulties he faced in his career.

Awoniyi, who switched from Union Berlin, explained things were so tough for his parents that he had to work as a bricklayer and even at bakery to afford the basic football kit.
