  • Chelsea fans are concerned their club is subtly walking into a relegation dogfight
  • This is after their latest defeat at the hands of Wolves in Frank Lampard’s first game since his return
  • The Blues are closer to the relegation zone than the top four places, which looks like a distant dream at this point in the season

There is a genuine possibility Chelsea could get relegated this season, and Blues fans are a worried lot.

In their latest game against Wolverhampton Wanderers, it was the same story for interim manager Frank Lampard, whose side succumbed to a 1-0 defeat courtesy of Matheus Nunes’ sweet finish.

Defeat left Chelsea fans with a sense of dejavu, as the team was not too improved under their club legend’s watch.

For Wolves, the win took them to 12th place on the log, just a place below their rivals on the day. Chelsea have 39 points, which is mathematically closer to Southampton in 20th place than it is the top four spot, occupied by Manchester United (56 points).

Relegation contenders?

While 39 points at this stage of the season is not relegation form, Chelsea are still very much in genuine danger of being dragged into the battle.

A tweet by social media user @CFCDUBois brought things to perspective, as Chelsea now need to start winning promptly if they are to salvage what is already a disastrous campaign.

Otherwise, if the Blues lose four of their next eight games and Everton win at least four of their next eight games, the relegation zone will make for interesting viewing as Chelsea will be right in the mix.

The fact that Chelsea still have to face Manchester City, Arsenal and Brighton in their remaining fixtures makes the relegation theory look like a possibility.

Meanwhile, the Blues will turn their attention to Real Madrid, who they face in the Champions League on Wednesday, April 12.

Chelsea fans want Lampard sacked

Sports Brief also reported on Chelsea fans’ reaction to Frank Lampard’s first game in charge, with a section of them already demanding the sacking of the boss.

Majority of the fans were adamant Lampard’s shortcomings in his first stint as Chelsea manager would come back to haunt them once again in their remaining games.
