  • Thembi Kgatlana is the undisputed spearhead of the South African senior national women's team
  • Her contributions to the side have seen them becoming the champions of Africa
  • The 26-year-old Kgatlana's performances for the national team and in the United States have seen her being placed on the prestigious 2023 Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 list

It's not common for a South African sportsperson to make the Forbes 30 Under 30 list.

Even rarer, will you see a footballer on that list. Thembi Kgatlana has bucked that trend.

FARPost reported that the 26-year-old Banyana Banyana star has been included on the list for 2023. Up until a devastating ankle injury that left her side-lined for a long time during South Africa's run to winning the 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco last July, she was a total nightmare to opponents on both fronts, at club and international level.

Forbes stated:

"The #FORBESAFRICA30Under30 class of 2023 have not only proven that there can be synergies in creating solutions for their companies, communities, countries and the continent but that they are also, in the process, redefining the idea of what it means to be self-made and relentless."

Forbes will host a summit in Botswana at the end of this month, where the 'Chosen 30' will receive their certificates of recognition.

Interestingly, another deadly women's football star in the form of Asisat Oshoala was included, as per the Daily Post. If she is not smashing in the goals for Nigeria's Super Falcons, the 28-year-old is doing so for Barcelona's women's team.

Oshoala and Kgatlana were two of three football players honoured by Forbes.

Kudus included in 30 Under 30

Sports Brief reported that promising Ghanaian rising star Mohammed Kudus made the Forbes 30 Under 30 selection.

The midfielder, who plies his trade in the Netherlands with Ajax Amsterdam, has been in phenomenal form for both club and country.

The World Cup star made the list for his immense contribution to society and Kudus is an inspiration for the people of his hometown, Nima.
