Ghanaian politician and lawyer, Gabby Otchere-Darko has denied reports that he influenced the appointment of Chris Hughton as Black Stars coach.
Mr. Otchere-Darko and Hughton have been long-time friends, but the latter's selection as Black Stars coach was a decision by the Ghana Football Association.
Hughton signed a 21 month contract to take over as coach from Otto Addo, who left after the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
"Chris Hughton was brought by the GFA not me. Chris and I have been good friends for a long time,” he told Kegyiwa Nankasa, as quoted by Pulse.

“He is a Tottenham fan and I am an Arsenal fan. The president is also a Tottenham fan. These things happen because God works in mysterious ways in putting strange people together.”
Hughton had been working with the Black Stars since March 2022.
"Chris is the choice of the Ghana Football Association and I think it's a good decision," continued the politician.
“When there is a vacancy anywhere people lobby and at the time, people thought Hughton deserved the job. The GFA also needed someone who knew the team.”
Otchere-Darko is a member of the ruling New Patriotic Party.
Hughton unveiled as Ghana coach
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Chris Hughton has been unveiled as the new coach of Ghana's senior national team, the Black Stars.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion manager will be in charge of the Black Stars until December 2024.

Derek Boateng, a member of the Black Stars team that first saw Ghana qualify for the World Cup in 2006, has warned against interference in the work of new coach, Chris Hughton.
Boateng is calling for support for the former Brighton & Hove Albion manager as the country hopes to end a 42-year wait for the AFCON title.
Hughton signed a 21-month contract to be coach of the Black Stars and supervised his first two games against Angola during the international break.
