Days after his inability to help Nigeria qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Salisu Yusuf has stated emphatically that his target now is to return to the Super Eagles as assistant coach.
The former Kano Pillars gaffer and his wards at the Under-23 national team failed to qualify for the 2023 African Cup of Nations after losing the play-offs against Guinea.
If they had qualified for the competition, then they would have been thinking of how to reach the semi-final which is the ticket for the Paris Olympics.
Since the Dream Team were beaten by Guinea, many Nigerians have been calling for the sacking of Yusuf who also failed to qualify Nigeria for CHAN.

According to the report on Guardian, Yusuf claimed that there is no reason for him to quit the national team setup in Nigeria.
Yusuf's statement about his career
“I am a coach and I will always be a coach as far as I am fit to work. I have a definition with the side (U-23), but I still have a contract with the Super Eagles as an assistant coach.”
Yusuf started his professional managerial career in 2002 as the head coach of Nigeria Professional Football League side Nasarawa United before he moved to Lobi Stars as an assistant coach and helping them win the National Challenge Cup.

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Salisu Yusuf reacted to his side’s 0-0 draw with the Junior Syli of Guinea at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
Salisu’s boys played below expectations as they were overwhelmed throughout the encounter and were lucky not to have conceded any goal.
The visitors took the game to the Nigerians, dominating proceedings from the start of the encounter and had two great chances to get a goal.
