FootballWout Weghorst: Gary Neville Defends Striker but Admits He Lacks Quality to Play for Manchester United
- Manchester United fell to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United at St James Park
- Erik ten Hag's men were shambolic making it relatively easy for the Magpies to win
- Wout Weghorst had one of the poorest performances of any United player on the pitch
Dutch striker, Wout Weghorst will make Manchester United's decision at the end of the season very easy, since he is yet to impress in his loan spell and should be out in the summer.
The Burnley striker terminated his previous loan deal at Besiktas to make the switch to Old Trafford to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, whose contract was terminated.
He had yet another poor display against Newcastle United yesterday and was hauled off at the hour mark to be replaced by French striker, Anthony Martial.
According to Metro UK, he has scored just twice in 18 games but is yet to find the back of the net in the Premier League, with his previous goals coming in the FA Cup and UEFA Europa League.

Neville defends and slams Weghorst
The former Wolfsburg striker has been praised for his work rate and hold-up play, but a centre-forward should score goals.
His attitude has made pundit, Gary Neville come to his defence but he admits the Dutchman lacks the quality to play for the club.
“He does play his part,” Neville said on Sky Sports, as quoted by Football365. “It’s a big issue. He doesn’t deserve to be criticised. I think he is doing his very best."
"He works as hard as he possibly can but he just lacks the quality that a player in that position should have at Manchester United. He’s filling in obviously with [Anthony] Martial being injured. [Cristiano] Ronaldo’s left. [Edinson] Cavani left at the start of the season.”

Gullit rips into Weghorst
Sports Brief also reported on former Chelsea player, Ruud Gullit claims Weghorst lacks qualities needed for a Man United player.
The Dutch legend he likes the striker's personality, but his weaknesses get evident as the day goes by and they cannot be overlooked.
Gullit has since advised United to move on from his compatriot, with many feeling Weghorst's loan term should not be extended.
