Former Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho reportedly made Mesut Ozil dump his girlfriend during their stint at Santiago Bernabeu.
Ozil announced his retirement from football this week after a stellar career that saw him represent top clubs like Real Madrid and Arsenal.
The 34-year-old featured for Los Blancos between 2010-2013, notching up 19 goals and over 50 assists in 159 appearances, according to Transfermarkt.
Throughout his stay in Spain, the German playmaker was coached by Mourinho and the pair won La Liga and the Copa del Rey together.

But on one occasion, Ozil reportedly annoyed the Portuguese tactician, leading the former Chelsea manager to make comments about his former girlfriend.
In a leaked audio recording from 2012, released by Spanish newspaper, El Confidencial, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is reportedly heard saying, via the SUN:
"[Mesut] Ozil came here aged 21. He is third generation Turk and then he discovers Madrid.
"He sent his girlfriend away and changed his lifestyle, falling for an Italian model from Milan. He had a private jet, so he would fly out there, make out and come back.
"Then one day, he annoyed Jose Mourinho, who jokingly said ‘Hey Ozil, idiot, let me tell you something as if I were your father, because this girl you’re going out with has slept with everyone at Inter and AC Milan, including the coaching staff of both teams.’ He [Ozil] ended up leaving her.”

Meanwhile, Ozil has revealed he had tears in his eyes when he boarded the flight from the airport in the Spanish capital following his departure from Real Madrid in 2013, Marca reports.
The German midfielder had fallen down the pecking order at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium and after a conflict with president, Florentino Perez, decided to look for another team.
Ozil would later pen a lucrative deal to join English Premier League giants, Arsenal but not without regretting leaving Real Madrid where he was undoubtedly loved by the club's fans.

The former Real Madrid star announced he would be hanging up his boots on March 22 after a successful 17 years in football at all levels.
The 2014 World Cup winner played together with Essien during the Ghanaian's brief loan spell at Spanish giants, Real Madrid.
