Harambee Stars defender Brian Mandela ruled out of AFCON with injury
South Africa based Harambee Stars defender Brian 'Niang' Mandela will miss the African Cup of Nations after picking a knee injury in training.
The Maritzburg United man who featured in the friendly against Madagascar suffered a knee injury in training and will now miss the next friendly match against DRC on Saturday, June 15 and the AFCON.
Coach Sebastien Migne confirmed that the central defender will sit out of the tournament whilst terming it a huge blow.

"Brian got injured today in training. He is one of our key players and will not be available for AFCON. We will need to find a solution,” Migné told the federation website.
The coach is however adamant that the team can cope without Mandela.
“We won against Ghana without key players. It is always problematic for the coach but we will try to find a solution,” he concluded.

The Frenchman also confirmed that Nkana FC's Musa Mohamed is also a doubt for the tournament after picking an injury against Madagascar.
Musa will miss the DRC game as they continue to evaluate his fitness ahead of the continental tournament.
“It is not good for us and for him as well. Musa Mohamed also picked up a knock (in Harambee Stars’ friendly match against Madagascar). We cannot take a risk with him against DRC but he could be available for AFCON,” Migne said.
Kenya has been pooled in Group C of the competition alongside Senegal, Algeria and Tanzania.
