Barcelona won the encounter 2-1, but the game was not without drama. Los Blancos’ players were unhappy with Gavi’s aggression during the game and the referee’s failure to punish him.

The La Liga champions also had a goal chalked off after Marco Asensio was adjudged to have been offside.

On the back of allegations that Barcelona paid referees over the years to rule in their favour, the decision did not sit well with the Madrid side.

Carlo Ancelotti doubted the offside call and voiced his opinion on the matter.

A critical Real Madrid TV

As noted by Football Espana, Real Madrid TV were also very critical of the refereeing during the recent game.

The show produced a four-minute segment on referee Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea, the VAR officials and the “mistakes” made in the game.

“Nothing surprises us anymore from a referee who always harms Real Madrid with his mistakes. We already knew that. With De Burgos Bengoetxea, we would have to fight against twelve. His regrettable refereeing prevented Madrid’s victory at the Camp Nou. An incessant drip of errors, always in the same direction,” the programme went on to state.

A chance for revenge

Madrid will be looking to get revenge against Barca when the two teams next meet.

The rivals will contest the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final tie. Barcelona take a 1-0 lead into the encounter. The game will take place on April 5 at Spotify Camp Nou.

Madrid unhappy with Barcelona midfielder

The El Clasico has come and gone, but the impact of the biggest game in Spanish football has left a sour taste in the mouth of Real Madrid players.

Los Blancos suffered a heartbreaking loss to eternal rivals Barcelona after Frank Kessie scored a dramatic goal in the 92nd minute, Sports Brief reported.

It has now been noted that the Real Madrid dressing room is not pleased at the unsportsmanlike behaviour of the Barcelona players during and after the El Clasico defeat.
