Kylian Mbappe is set to become one of the youngest national team captains after being selected as the preferred candidate to take over from retired goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris.
France manager, Didier Deschamps has reportedly selected the 24-year-old ahead of fellow contender and Atletico Madrid forward, Antoine Griezmann, who was also in line for the captaincy.
According to Get Football, the retirements of senior players including Steve Mandanda, Karim Benzema, and then vice-captain, Raphaël Varane left Mbappe and Griezmann as the two candidates for vacant captain spot.
Deschamps revealed he would hold further discussions with the Paris Saint-Germain star about the France captaincy, with the decisions expected to be officially announced on March 23.

Mbappe has scored 36 goals for Les Bleus in 66 appearances, including netting eight goals at the 2022 FIFA World Cup to emerge as the golden boot winner.
Meanwhile, Deschamps has outlined the key qualities that make Mbappe the perfect choice to become the next national team captain, Goal reported.
The French national coach hailed the PSG forward and said one of his best qualities was excelling at communication, in addition to all his other attributes.
Mbappe is expected to be in action when France kicks off their qualifying campaign for the upcoming European Championships against the Netherlands on Friday.
Sports Brief also reported on the French national team arriving in style at Clairefontaine, the team's training base, for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifying campaign.
