Harambee Stars captain and former Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama has spoken about his much-publicized move to Tottenham Hotspurs and the salary he is likely to earn per day.

Appearing on Citizen TV on Friday, July 1, Wanyama discussed the move to one of England’s top clubs and what he expects in the future both on the field as a player and from Kenyans.

The national team skipper expressed optimism that many Kenyans will decamp from other clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United and start supporting Spurs considering he will be plying his trade at White Hart Lane.

He also discussed his move to North London, saying his former club, Southampton, tried to block the deal because they believed in him and wanted him to stay but eventually Tottenham reached the agreement.

His move to White Hart Lane means he is reuniting with Mauricio Pochettino, the man who signed him from Celtic in 2013.

It also means Wanyama’s salary has significantly doubled having signed a five-year deal with the club.

Word has it that the midfielder will earn at least KSh 1 million a day.

Wanyama was asked to clarify this rumour.

He was accompanied by his elder brother, McDonald Mariga, a man who has also lit football in Europe in the past.

His departure from the south coast means he will return to Champions League football considering Tottenham finished third last season.
