  • Arsenal maintained their five points lead at the top of the Premier League table at the weekend
  • Manchester United finished their draw with Southampton with 10 men and a serious injury
  • Erik Ten Hag is worried about his team's injuries and says the league leaders are lucky

Manchester United, weeks ago, were just five points behind Arsenal and were considered to be in the title race. Now, they are 16 points behind but have one game on hand.

United have had highs and lows in the past weeks; winning the Carabao Cup and ending their six-year trophy drought is undoubtedly high but losing 7-0 to their fiercest rival Liverpool is a ridiculous low.

Erik Ten Hag should be finding answers to why his team can have a lengthy good run but is still inconsistent in between and, at the same time, have moments where they don't look like a team.

Ten Hag bemoans injuries

The Dutch manager believes injuries and inconsistencies have been his team's biggest undoing. Speaking ahead of the Europa League round of 16 second leg game against Real Betis, as quoted by Goal, he talked from a fan perspective when he said league leaders Arsenal are lucky.

“When you see all season we have had some setbacks, every time we've dealt with it,” Ten Hag said.
“It's about the players who are available, and every time there's a team on the pitch who deals with it. In just one game we had the squad available totally and I was able to pick my team, from a tactical approach, perfectly - that was against Manchester City at home this season.
“Every other time it's been one player suspended, injured, or unavailable through illness. We have to deal with it well but Arsenal, all the time their squad is totally available.”

The former Ajax manager's statements may come a bit off the mark as many Gunners stars have had spells and are still on the sidelines, as reported by Evening Standard.

Arsenal could still lose title

Sports Brief earlier reported that former Tottenham player Jamie O'Hara believes Arsenal won't win the title despite being five points clear of champions Manchester City with 11 games to go.

He claimed the run of games which would see the Gunners play Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea is where they would crumble and would be overtaken by Pep Guardiola's men.
