FootballCasemiro: Emotional Manchester United Star Sees Red Against Southampton
- Casemiro was given his second red card in three Premier League games on Sunday afternoon
- The Brazilian was sent off after a horror tackle on Southampton's Charly Alcaraz at Old Trafford
- The midfielder was understandably disappointed as he left the pitch with more than half of the game yet to be played
Casemiro was given a straight red card for the second time this season in Manchester United's game against Southampton on March 12th.
Centre referee Anthony Taylor upgraded his initial yellow card decision to a red card upon a review from the Video Assitant Referee.
The visibly distraught Brazilian trudged off the pitch amid consolation from his teammates. The sending-off comes after he was sent off against Crystal Palace in February.
The former Real Madrid man lunged into Carlos Alcaraz to break a Southampton attack in what was adjudged to be studs up challenge. There was little argument from the abrasive midfielder as he walked off the pitch to a surprising ovation from the Old Trafford faithful.

He will now miss important clashes against Newcastle and Brentford as United seek to maintain their grip in the top four places. The red card comes at a bad time for Erik ten Hag, who is desperate to see his side bounce back after the 7-o mauling at Liverpool last weekend.
He immediately made a swap by withdrawing Wout Weghorst and sending on Scott McTomminay in the holding midfield role.
Why Casemiro will miss four games
Prior to moving to Manchester United, Casemiro had never received a straight red card at Real Madrid.
That may be hard to believe, given that the Brazilian never shies away from getting into tackles and brawls on the pitch, but it is a fact.
Casemiro is now set to miss the next four games for Erik ten Hag in England. One might wonder how come he will miss four and not three or two games which is often believed to be the punishment for a sending off. Given that it is his second red card in the same season, the five-time Champions League-winning midfielder will now be banned for four games.
