  • Cristiano Ronaldo has pulled off one of his worst free kicks of his career
  • The 38-year-old featured as his Al-Nassr suffered a 1-0 loss to Al-Ittihad
  • The result means the Saudi Arabian giants slipped down to second place

Al-Nassr superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo took the worst free kick of his entire career during his side's 1-0 defeat to Al-Ittihad on Thursday.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner had been in superb form going into the game at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, netting eight goals in his last five outings for the Saudi Arabian side.

The ex-Juventus forward was noted for his impressive skill with set-pieces during his days with Manchester United and Real Madrid.

But the 38-year-old woefully dropped his benchmark in the top-of-the-table clash against their bitter rivals in the Saudi Pro League.

In a video shared on Twitter, spotted by Sports Brief, Ronaldo completed his iconic run up to the ball and hit it with his trademark knuckleball technique.

He instead rifled the ball right into the crowd and this has shown the Portugal captain is not quite the set-piece specialist he used to be.

The 1-0 defeat saw Al-Ittihad leapfrog Ronaldo's Al-Nassr to claim the top spot as they hunt down a ninth league crown.

Al-Ittihad hand Ronaldo first defeat

In a fairly balanced affair, chances were few and far between, with both sides sizing each other up in the first stanza of the game.

However, the home side upped the ante in the second half as they pressed on for a goal, which arrived through the boots of Romarinho with ten minutes left on the clock.

For Ronaldo, the result is somewhat of a deja vu after he tasted defeat against the same opposition in the Saudi Super Cup earlier this year.

Ronaldo disappointed with Al-Nassr loss

Sports Brief also reported on Ronaldo expressing disappointment following Al-Nassr's defeat to Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League.

The Saudi giants were pipped by a Romarinho second-half strike as their rivals claimed bragging rights and all three points to boot.

The narrow defeat means Al-Ittihad jumps ahead of Al-Nassr to assume the top spot in the league with only 10 games left in the season.
