A Chelsea fan has come up with a bizarre theory as to why they could win the Champions League this season.

The Blues made a good account of themselves to qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition on Tuesday night.

Graham Potter's men defied all the odds to see off Borussia Dortmund in the last 16 to advance to the next round.

Why Chelsea could win UCL

While Chelsea winning the European elite competition this term would be a shocker, especially considering their run of form, a section of fans contend this could actually happen.

Sportbible reports that a fan took to social media with a peculiar theory pointing at the Blues being crowned European champions.

The theory centred on the success of AC Milan, who stunned Tottenham Hotspur in the round of 16 to advance to the quarters.

“Milan are in the UCL QF for the first time since 2011/12…they beat an English side in the RO16 both times," the fan posted.
“Chelsea made 7+ signings in 2011/12 & lost the first RO16 leg before qualifying for the QF. Chelsea made 7+ signings & lost the first RO16 leg before qualifying for the QF this season."

If the theory is taken to mean that history could actually repeat itself this year, then Chelsea will be crowned the Champions League winners in Istanbul.

Chelsea fans slam Potter

Sports Brief previously reported on fans slamming Potter for not watching Kai Havertz retake a penalty after the German hit the foot of the post on his first attempt.

The English manager comes off as a soft personality who is relatively quiet on the touchline, but he has to be more vocal to help his team maintain the momentum.

Evening Standard reported the 47-year-old was more animated on the sidelines during the win over Leeds and showed more fight in the game against Dortmund.
