TUKO.co.ke understands Al Duhail SC have been tracking the Harambee Stars' hotshot following a spectacular campaign with Reysol in the J 1 League.

Olunga enjoyed a stellar campaign in his maiden season in the Japanese top-flight, finishing the campaign as top scorer to bag the prestigious Golden Boot award.

The Kenyan international notched an impressive 29 league goals in just 34 appearances in a stunning goalscoring streak that saw him named J 1 League's 2020 Most Valuable Player.

It was after his exploits that reports emerged Al Duhail SC were keen to splash an eye-watering €7million (about KSh 930 million) to lure Olunga to Qatar.

And on Monday evening, January 11, images of the striker sporting Al Duhail SC's shirt surfaced online, with many contending the 26-year-old had all but completed the switch.

Reacting to the development surrounding Olunga's future, Wanyama said it was hard to advise a player who has played at the top level on their next move.

He, however, took time to send his national football teammate a message of goodwill, saying he will support whichever move he makes.

“In football it is always difficult to try and advise someone who has played the game and knows what’s next in his move. But Olunga is a mature player and he knows what’s next for his career," Wanyama said as cited by The Standard.
"All of us have ambitions and they cannot be the same. So, I’m supporting him in every step he is going to take and I wish him all the best in whatever move he is going to take,” the midfielder added.

Wanyama's remarks came just days after legendary Kenyan striker Dennis Oliech urged Olunga to snap up the Qatar offer.

TUKO.co.ke reported Oliech, who once plied his trade in Qatar during his active playing days, believes Olunga should not turn down the lucrative deal.

According to the former Auxerre star, the football engineer should "pick these offers" before he enters the twilight years of his career.
