Lionel Messi becoming victorious in FIFA the Best awards on Monday is still kicking up a storm.
A lot of fans on social media are questioning why Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema was not crowned as the winner, including the Frenchman himself.
On Wednesday, the 35-year-old Los Blancos star posted an Instagram story with all the achievements he got last year, including the Champions League, as well as being the tournament's top scorer.
In what appears to be a direct response to the 2022 Ballon d'Or winner, Messi also posted two Instagram stories.

In both of them, the Argentina captain is pictured with the World Cup in Qatar in December.
It was mainly his World Cup win with Argentina which made the Paris Saint-Germain man win the award, as he barely won anything at the French side.
What did Benzema post?
While Benzema hasn’t publicly commented on FIFA’s decision to name Messi as the winner, his social media posts indicate how he feels.
The French attacker took to Instagram a day after the awards evening to share a photo of a post listing all his achievements during the judging period for The Best awards.
Benzema scored 62 goals during that time period and also won the European Nations League, the UEFA Champions League, La Liga, the Spanish Super Cup and the European Super Cup. He also won the Ballon d’Or.
Benzema takes jab at FIFA
Real Madrid forward, Benzema has described FIFA as liars after Messi was named the 2022 best player at The Best Awards in Paris, France.

However, Benzema feels the accolade was given to the wrong person after his stellar 2022 with Real Madrid, including winning La Liga.
Madrid to skip awards ceremony
The Best FIFA Football Awards took place in Paris but there was a notable absence at this year’s event.
Sports Brief also reported on Real Madrid’s coach, Carlo Ancelotti and his players not attending the awards.
Los Blancos did not travel to France for the awards as they prepare for a Copa del Rey clash with Barcelona.
