FootballAce Ncobo Back in the PSL: Memories of Mr Spot On's Ugly League Exit Revisited
- South African football has been shaken by news of Andile Ncobo returning to the Premier Soccer League
- 'Ace' left the PSL under acrimonious circumstances that involved alleged match-fixing involving a referee
- He voluntarily departed the organisation following an inconclusive polygraph test more than a decade ago
Andile 'Ace' Ncobo is something of a prodigal son when it comes to the Premier Soccer League.
The revered former referee has returned to the organisation after departing 14 years ago, in rather controversial circumstances.
IOL reported that Ncobo, who was the league's general manager at the time, handed in his resignation following an inconclusive polygraph test he had taken, in connection with then-suspended referee, Jonas Nhlapo.
The latter had been the subject of a match-fixing investigation after Ncobo accused him of having allegedly taken a bribe from someone at Orlando Pirates, as was reported in 2009 by SowetanLIVE.

Nhlapo then counter-claimed that Ncobo himself was corrupt in what was a murky side-show of mudslinging.
In the days following his resignation, Ncobo, according to Sport24, then dropped a bombshell by alleging that South African football was rotten to the core when it came to corruption and match-fixing.
Ncobo speaks out on showboating
As the uproar over the necessity of Orlando Pirates' junior team's indulgence in showboating continues, a man of the football law has had his say.
Ncobo gave his take on how 'kasi flava' is governed within the rules of the game as per FIFA, Sports Brief previously reported.
He said that as far as he was concerned, nothing in the laws of the game prohibited expressing oneself ridiculously with the ball.
