  • Erik ten Hag's ruthlessness has set him apart during his short time at Manchester United
  • He hasn't been afraid to reign in big names like Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford
  • Jadon Sancho was also reportedly 'punished' as ten Hag sought to get him up to full speed

New details have now emerged as to why Jadon Sancho was ostracised from Manchester United's first-team training by Erik ten Hag.

Sancho spent an extended time training alone with his coach, quipping that he needed the time to rediscover himself.

From Marcus Rashford to Cristiano Ronaldo, ten Hag has been uncompromising with his virtues and where he wants the club to go under his leadership.

Ten Hag 'punished' Sancho

The Athletic now reports that Sancho suffered the same fate as ten Hag felt the 22-year-old was not delivering as expected despite his enormous talents.

Sancho also had serious issues with time keeping which the Dutch manager believed was a detriment to his fitness. The former Ajax manager then unleashed some sort of tough love on the England international.

The winger was dropped from the first squad on November 3 and sent to a personalised training programme in ten Hag's home country of the Netherlands. He worked his way up until he was reinstated to matchday squads on February 1.

He has scored two goals so far and knowing ten Hag, he will be demanding more from Sancho as the club chases three other trophies this season.

The young Red Devils star came off the bench on Sunday as United beat Newcastle United to win the Carabao Cup.

Whatever script ten Hag is reading from, it seems to be working. These are the days Manchester United fans longed for after the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Mbappe's message for Sancho

Sports Brief has also reported on Kylian Mbappe giving Sancho a positive message hours after Manchester United won the Carabao Cup.

Goals from Casemiro and Marcus Rashford helped the Red Devils beat Newcastle to win their first trophy under ten Hag in a thrilling contest.

Mbappe was impressed with the progress Sancho has made after returning to action and posted a comment on his photo on social media.
