Barcelona’s Caso Negreira scandal is the latest rocking Spanish football, but Real Madrid has been no stranger to the irregularities around referees in La Liga.

Barcelona had paid the company of Enrique Negreira, former Vice President of the Technical Committee of Referees €1.4m, which has caused much resentment within La Liga teams.

According to Football Espana, Real Madrid had been suspecting refereeing irregularities for 20 years, a message that comes from ‘authoritative voices’ within the club.

Jose Felix Diaz also cited several Real Madrid official statements and grievances regarding referees, including one from Jose Mourinho's time as a manager in 2011 that claimed referees were biased against them.

Real Madrid refused to support a statement supported by 40 of the 42 Primera and Segunda clubs asking for a thorough investigation into the matter involving the Barcelona refereeing scandal.

Ancelotti reveals stance on corruption in La Liga

Meanwhile, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti was adamant that Barcelona was not guilty of 'corruption' as it does not currently exist in the modern game, 90MIN reports.

The veteran Italian manager insists he is convinced there is no corruption in the football world, as speculated in the media following the Caso Negreiro scandal.

Ancelotti believes referees make mistakes naturally during games, but that doesn’t mean clubs have compromised them to make decisions in their favour.

Details about Barcelona refereeing payments

Earlier, Sports Brief reported things are not looking good for FC Barcelona.

The club have denied any wrongdoing after allegations surfaced that they have been paying the Enriquez Negreira over the years, but new information could suggest otherwise.

A registered letter from Negreira to Barcelona in 2018 has been made public. In the letter, Negreira threatened Barca after they tried to stop the payments.
