Harambee Stars skipper Victor Wanyama was in full gear as Tottenham knocked out reigning Premier League champions Manchester City from the Champions League to qualify for the semis.

The Spurs midfielder was back to optimum performance following a season plagued with injury and proved his worth to Mauricio Pochettino at the Etihad.

Wanyama was tasked with dismantling a very formidable City squad inspired by the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva, and the North Londoners did just enough to finish the job.

His involvement in both games was pivotal as Spurs needed to lock out Guardiola's midfield and stop them from controlling the game's pace, to give themselves time on the ball to create chances.

The 27-year-old made key interceptions and tackles that stopped City's momentum at home.

He has followed in the footsteps of his big brother McDonald Mariga who was the first Kenyan to feature in the Champions League semi-final under Inter Milan in 2010.

Having sealed an important victory at their new stadium in the first leg, it was only a matter of keeping up with City's goal count int the second leg, and they did just that.

It was a hard fought encounter and possibly one of the most exciting Champions League matches in recent times, with sevens goals registered and a late VAR decision that left City fans devastated.

Tottenham now face Ajax next on Tuesday, April 30, and they will only be a whisker away from winning the Champions League if they beat their Dutch opponents.
