Madrid were the more cautious side in last season’s final between the two sides, but this time focused on a more attacking style of play.

“We gambled on scoring here. We wanted to be strong up front with a forward line that gave us a chance of scoring. We changed the tactics from the final, where we played with a low block,” he explained.

He added that the aim was to get over the initial pressure and keep a cool head, before launching their attack.

The plan worked well as Madrid scored five unanswered goals, with Vinicus Jr and Karim Benzema both scoring braces, Sky Sports reported.

While Los Blancos are in a commanding position, Ancelotti warned his side not to get too complacent with the second leg still to come.

"Liverpool are a highly competitive team and unfortunately the tie isn't over. We have gained an advantage from the first 90 minutes and now we have to manage the second 90 in Madrid well,” he explained.

Carragher blasts Liverpool after loss

Real Madrid proved why they are the kings of Europe, producing one of the best comeback performances to dismantle Liverpool at Anfield.

The two sides met in the final last year where Madrid came out on top thanks to Vinicius Jr's 59th-minute strike, but the next game between he two sides was a much different story.

Following the defeat, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher blasted the team's defence for their shambolic performance, Sports Brief reported.
