Italian attacking midfielder, Jorginho has stated emphatically that those in charge of Napoli were interested in him before they signed Nigerian international, Victor Osimhen.

The Super Eagles man is currently soaring in the Serie A, leading the goalscoring chart with 18 goals and being widely tipped to win the league's Golden Boot award.

The 24-year-old joined Napoli from Lille in 2020 and has established himself as one of the best strikers in the world.

His performances so far in Italy have caught the attention of clubs in the Premier League with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal said to be interested in him.

According to the report by Complete Sports, Jorginho explained that he was actually contacted first but told Napoli to sign the Super Eagles striker.

'Osimhen was our defenders' nightmare'

"I knew Osimhen. I had played against him in Champions League and he had given a hard time to our defenders," the Italian-born Brazilian said.
"[Cristiano] Giuntoli called me before signing [Osimhen] and I told him to sign him straight away, he is very promising and is doing really well. They [Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia] are flying and everything is going well. There is winning energy."

Jorginho recently joined Arsenal and he has featured in three games so far for the Gunners.

Sports Brief also reported on former Nigeria international, Tijani Babangida believing Osimhen can break Rashidi Yekini's record if he stays consistent.

The striker is the man of the moment in the Serie A, helping Napoli to the top of the Italian league's standings and being strongly poised to win the title.

During his active playing days, Yekini was one of the Africa's finest strikers, also helping his country to win the 1994 Nations Cup.
